Aanii! (Hello)
My name is Sarah Podemski and I am an Anishinaabe/Ashkenazi artist born and raised in Toronto. I’ve made a career in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, but I was always an artist and crafter at heart!
My modern take on the traditional Dreamcatcher is a mix of my urban identity and the teachings I have been graciously gifted over the years.
The Dreamcatcher represents a spider’s web. The good dreams get caught in the sinew, while the bad dreams are drawn to the stones. The good dreams flow down through what were traditionally feathers, to the dreamers head, and the bad dreams that are trapped in the stones are released with the rising sun.
I use semi precious stones to amplify the intentions set with each piece. I also use Cruelty-Free wool when possible and sustainable stones when I can get my hands on them!
I hope you find something that makes your heart sing. When you purchase Indigenous-made art, you are supporting artists who are continuing the traditions that their ancestors protected for generations.
Miigwetch for your support in keeping these traditions alive!
